Winter Tips
‘Tis the season for colds and flu, as per the old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Have you procured your flu shot? It’s not too late; getting the  shot takes only five minutes and possibly a little pinch in the arm. Please discuss this with your health care provider, or visit one of the many “flu shot” providers, i.e., pharmacies in your town.
With the arrival of the New Year, many PSG members will be interviewing. We like to extend to you a little tip that may prevent you, your family, friends and prospective bosses from becoming ill and spreading germs. Many individuals, when they are about to sneeze or cough, usually perform the act covering their hands over the nose and mouth. Most individuals think this will prevent the spread of germs. Not true. If you are about to cough or sneeze, place the inside of your elbow next to your mouth and nose then sneeze or cough. You won’t be spreading your germs to a person when shaking hands.
Second, if you do use a handkerchief or a tissue, remember to wash your hands with warm soapy water immediately. If you don’t have the time before an interview to use the restroom facilities, you may want to consider using a hand sanitizer, to be kept in your glove compartment, brief case or purse, to cleanse your hands.
Third, as we all know the first minute we step into a hiring manager’s office we are to greet the interviewer with a warm smile and a firm handshake. If you are recovering from a cold or flu, you should smile and nod your head. You could state you are recovering from a cold or flu. You don’t want the hiring manager to get sick and think of you as an unfavorable candidate.
