May 12: Use Your Brain Power — Kathy Shoemaker Leads a Workshop on Practical Ways to Use Neuroscience in the Job Search
Brain research is as important to our current well-being as the race for outer space is to exploration of Mars today — and as crucial as the moon race was in the 1960s. Indeed, news stories about contemporary brain research often describe it as the race for inner space. Ever wish you could harness current research to enhance a positive outlook and deal with stress? Then be sure to attend PSGCNJ’s general meeting on Monday, May 12, for an interactive workshop with Kathy Shoemaker on Job Searching with the Brain in Mind: Practical Ways to Use Neuroscience in Our Daily Lives.
Neuroscience is illuminating how the brain reacts to a variety of experiences we encounter every day. Brain-based research can provide new insights that may help steer the way we think and the choices we make that affect mood, attitudes, and behaviors. This interactive workshop will discuss basic tenets of neuroscience and career theory and how we can apply them to the way we approach our job search and our daily lives, so we can better handle stress and stay positive during this challenging time.
Kathy Shoemaker is a member of the PSGCNJ Training Committee and a doctoral fellow at Montclair State University, getting her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. She is a licensed counselor and prevention specialist with interests in neuroscience, positive psychology and career development around life transitions.
Kathy has run groups and presented at teacher workshops on overcoming obstacles, building motivation and creating an environment of optimism. She has applied the findings of neuroscience to help students overcome obstacles to academic success and to enhance their well-being.
Bring a friend and come to hear her speak at PSGCNJ’s general meeting on Monday, May 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, located at 48 West High Street, Somerville.
