Network with the Best of Them: Marty Latman Discusses the Best Way to Work the Room

By Rita WilliamsMarty Latman

If you diligently follow job-hunting advice, you know that networking is one of the most successful employment search strategies. It is far more likely to land you a job than chasing job postings through the Web or sending a resume to a recruiter. Since networking is one of the most successful methods of job searching, you should definitely include business meetings, recruitment fairs, and other networking events as part of your landing strategy. However, when you attend networking events or business meetings, are you successful in promoting yourself? Are you unsure of the best ways to make a connection? Would you like to improve your networking technique? Do you want to leave networking events feeling that you really accomplished something? If you would like to get better at “working the room,” come hear Marty Latman’s talk at PSGCNJ’s general meeting on March 31, 2014.

Latman will present the basic tools you need to use to attend networking events. He is the chairman of the Bergen Chapter of Financial Executive Network Group (FENG), which he created in March 2002 with 29 members. Since then, chapter membership has grown to over 3,800 members. FENG-Bergen Chapter has successfully helped more than 900 members find gainful employment. Marty is also the chairman of NJ Strategic Executive Networking Group (NJSENG), a Financial Executive International (FEI) member, and a member of more than 20 other career networking groups.

Marty has been a guest speaker at many networking groups, discussing career development topics such as networking, interviewing techniques, and advanced career planning strategies. He has spoken at FEI, the Financial Planning Association of New Jersey (FPANJ), Media Communication Association – International (MCA-I), Career Forum, Phi Beta Kappa, Institute of Management Accountants (IMA),Careers-in-Transition (CIT), Breakfast Club, Neighbors-helping-Neighbors, the Westchester Networking Organization (WNO), and others.
