PSGCNJ Member ‘landings’ increase 60% in 2013

More than half were long-term unemployed professionals

The number of unemployed members who re-entered the workforce increased by 60 percent in 2013, the Professional Service Group of Central New Jersey (PSGCNJ) announced today.

In 2013, 152 PSGCNJ unemployed professionals went back to work, compared to 95 in 2012. Sixty-eight percent returned to permanent positions last year.

Out of the 152 success stories, 53 percent were long-term unemployed, ranging from 27 weeks to 107 weeks.

“In our first full year as an independent nonprofit, we have advanced our mission by putting one unemployed member back to work every 58 hours,” said PSGCNJ Executive Director Kenneth Hitchner. “Without government support and employer subsidies, we have proven that — if we work together and help others — we can give people back their lives by using sheer will. This is a great American story.”

PSGCNJ ‘‘landings’’ hit double-digits in nine months last year. The typically slow summer months yielded 41 landings during the 92 days in June, July and August. The holiday season also produced high numbers, as 30 unemployed members returned to work in November and December.

On average, 15 new members joined the nonprofit, and 13 members went back to work each month last year.

Re-employed members who returned to work live in 13 different counties, including Somerset (83), Morris (20), Hunterdon (13), Union (12) and Middlesex (nine) counties.

During its first 18 months operating as an independent organization, PSGCNJ has helped 197 unemployed professionals return to work. Dating back to its roots as a state program, PSGCNJ has helped more than 880 unemployed professionals return to work since June 2008. The organization will report updated statistics later this month.


PSGCNJ is the nation’s first employment community that helps its unemployed, professional members advance their careers by putting them back into the workforce.

The nonprofit’s education program features Accelerated Career Training (ACT) workshops, resume review and mock interview classes. New programs, such as the Marketing Plan seminar and Improv for Business Communications, have been added to the public offerings.

The organization’s innovative workforce development program also drives the nonprofit’s success rate. To gain full access to PSGCNJ’s free services, members are required to join one of six business units that operate the corporation and donate their talent to advance the PSGCNJ mission.
